Three Malvern Prep Artists to exhibit at National Ceramics Exhibition

Three Friars have had their ceramics work juried into the 2012 National K12 Ceramics Exhibition, to be held March 28-31 in Seattle, Washington. Congratulations to Julian Venonsky '12, Ryan Wheeler '12, and Patrick Hoban '11 on their accepted work.

Is your child an aspiring actor or actress?  Does your son or daughter love to sing, put on shows, play guitar or take photographs?  If so, then Malvern Prep’s new Summer Arts Camp may be the perfect ticket to unlock your child’s inner artist.  Malvern will offer a preview of its Summer Arts program at a special Open House on Saturday, March 24, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the school’s Duffy Arts Center.
Malvern Wins 2nd Straight Inter-Ac Basketball Title

The Malvern Prep Friars basketball team won its second consecutive Inter-Ac League championship on Saturday night with a 55-52 win over Germantown Academy in front of a packed house in the O'Neill Center. Christian M. Talbot Appointed 13th Head of School

The Board of Trustees of Malvern Preparatory School announced today the appointment of Christian M. Talbot as Malvern’s 13th Head of School, effective July 1, 2012.  Currently English Department Chair at Regis High School, a Catholic college preparatory school for boys in New York City, Talbot’s appointment is the culmination of an extensive national search and a unanimous recommendation from the Head of School Search Committee.
Malvern Prep launches its first student-run blog, The Friar’s Lantern

In the 1940s, The Friar’s Lantern was the student newspaper of Malvern Preparatory School, covering many of the same topics the current Black Friar Chronicle does today, including campus events and sports. In January, several decades since its last printed edition, The Friar’s Lantern returned to Malvern as the school’s first-ever online student publication.

Laser, Light & Sound Show set for Feb. 15

For Malvern Prep 6th grader Christian Franck and Villa Maria Academy 8th grader Ashleigh Jaramillo, the coolest thing about playing the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine in Aladdin Jr. is riding high above the stage on a flying carpet.  The Malvern Theatre Society's first-ever Middle School musical, Disney's Aladdin Jr. will be staged on Friday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 28 at 3:00 p.m. 

Speaker Matt Bellace to Address Issues of Drugs and Alcohol at annual Speak Up Event on Jan. 24

Matt Bellace, a youth motivational speaker and stand-up comedian, will address students from Malvern Prep, Villa Maria, Notre Dame and Devon Prep on the dangers of drugs and alcohol during the annual Speak Up! event on Tuesday, January 24, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Duffy Arts Center.  
Ceramics for Social Change: 4th Annual Empty Bowls on Jan. 16 to Benefit Area's Homeless

On Monday, Jan. 16, students, parents, teachers, family and friends will gather on the campus of Malvern Prep to raise money to benefit the area’s homeless population.  The 4th annual event is called Empty Bowls, and it combines Malvern’s love of clay with the school’s dedication to community service.  On Martin Luther King Day, a designated national day of service, Malvern is seeking to build on the more than $27,500 raised in the first three years of Empty Bowls.

Malvern knows Colleen Contrisciane-Lewis from her day job as a teacher and school counselor. In the January 2012 issue of Backpacker, a national magazine for hikers and wilderness adventurers, Mrs. Lewis serves as a field scout, hiking and reporting on her dream trip: 85-mile, weeklong transect of Glacier National Park on the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail.
